Due to their revitalization efforts downtown, Fredricksburg and Ashland have been added to the ‘Virginia Main Street’ List.
This list is part of program created by the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development, that provides training, technical assistance and resources to help communities renew their business districts.
The addition of these two localities brings the total number of communities on the list to 26.
Any applications for new Main Street communities are accepted every three to five years. If a community wishes to be part of Virginia Main Street, it must have a population of fewer than 75, 000 and be committed to involving strengthening the community through volunteer efforts.
