As the 2012 college football season moves forward, it is clear that nothing is clear in the CIAA, except that Winston-Salem is the cream of the football crop. The Rams bombarded Morehouse on Saturday in Cleveland 55 – 21 in the Cleveland Classic to go 3 – 0 on the season. Meanwhile, the Trojans of Virginia State University finally get into the win column with a 30 – 20 victory over Benedict College in Columbia, South Carolina. State is now 1 – 2 on the season with a date next Saturday in Charlotte against Johnson C. Smith University.

While VSU was celebrating its first win, the Panthers of Virginia Union University were experiencing their first loss of the season at Fayetteville State, where the Broncos beat the visitors from Richmond 28 – 17. Union is now 2 – 1 and have a big meeting next weekend at Winston-Salem with the defending CIAA Champions. In the MEAC, Hampton University is having a tough year so far being on probation and ineliginle for any MEAC or NCAA treasure. The Pirates were blown away 44 – 20 last Saturday at Florida A & M to go 0 – 3.

In Norfolk, where the Spartans of Norfolk State rarely lose, Howard University rolled into Dick Price Stadium against all odds, and stole a 37 – 36 overtime victory over the Green & Gold. The Spartans fall to 2 – 1 and hit the road to Orangeburg, SC this weekend to face the Bulldogs of South Carolina State University.
