The Norfolk State University Spartans return to Tidewater this weekend to face one of their conference rivals, Howard University, at Dick Price Stadium. The Spartans, who were an FCS playoff team last season, and are off to a 2 – 0 start in 2012 with wins over Virginia State and Liberty. The Bison come into Norfolk with a 1 – 1 record having beaten Morehouse and losing to Rutgers. Hampton University will travel to Tallahassee, Florida to face the Rattlers of Florida A & M on Saturday. The irates are 0 – 2 so far in what has to be a strange season with the team ineligible for the MEAC crown or postseason play.

In the CIAA, Virginia Union University is off to a 2 – 0 start with wins over Benedict and Brevard College of NC. The Panthers travel to Fayetteville State to take on an 0 – 2 Bronco team, as Union is leading the CIAA North Division heading into Week 3. Meanwhile, the Trojans of Virginia State University are still looking for win No. 1 this season after being shut-out at Norfolk and losing their home opener to West Liberty last weekend. VSU heads south to Columbia, SC to face Benedict College, which lost at Va. Union 28 – 7 two weeks ago.
