While the cast of “Love And Hip Hop Atlanta” have been reaping all the attention and ratings, the show’s creator, Mona Scott Young, has come forward to defend the show from critics.

Young appeared on “The Rickey Smiley Morning Show” and the two soon had a heated debate over the reality show’s negative depiction of African-Americans.  Smiley said while he was good friends with Lil Scrappy, he could not in good conscience, support the ratchetness of “Love And Hip Hop Atlanta.”

Young countered, “The show was not created to represent all African-Americans.  I think it’s clear that it’s these women’s stories….It’s set in a specific world and I don’t think that there’s anybody who’s navigated that world who would deny that these things happen.”

Young then went on to claim that the women on the show have benefited from being on the show and have actually shown character growth.
