The NFL and sports fans around the nation remain shocked by the tragic death of ex-All Pro LB Junior Seau, who was found dead on Wednesday at age 43.   His death has now officially been ruled as a suicide according to the coroner, after his body was discovered with a single gunshot wound to the chest area. .  Seau is the eighth member of the San Diego Chargers’ 1994 Super Bowl team to pass away for various reasons.   He reportedly suffered from concussions long after his retirement and had some off-the-field issues as well.

The Washington Redskins gave up a truckload of first round draft picks, but they felt  Baylor QB Robert Griffin, III was worth the risk at No. 2.   It was the selection of QB Kirk Cousins of Michigan State that had all the sports pundits buzzing and scratching their heads as to why the Redskins, a team with glaring needs all over the field, picked a QB who will not play.  This is Griffin’s team, lock, stock, and barrel.    Great way to show comfidemce in your top pick.

Redskins Coach Mike Shanahan, obviously growing tired of all the hoopla surrounding the team’s draft has officially named RG-3 as the team’s starting QB.   Wow.   What a shock!   Who would have thought the No. 2 pick in the draft, the Heisman Trophy winner, headed to a team with virtually no QB, would somehow become the team’s starter?   Now that’s smart coaching.   Griffin had his first workouts with the Redskins this past weekend, and there’s no question, the team loves the promise and potential in what they see.

Virginia Tech RB David Wilson as expected, was the first state product to be taken off the board on the final pick of the first round to the world champion New York Giants.   Wilson, a Danville native, left the Hokies early was listed as one of the top 5 RBs in the 2012 draft.   Andre Branch, who starred at Varina HS went to Jacksonville in the 2nd round out of Clemson, where he was a star at defensive end.
