The 2012 Baseball season is here and there’s no question that fans in the Richmond metropolitan area have fallen in love with the Richmond Flying Squirrels, as evidenced by the sellout crowd that waits them on Thursday for opening day at the Diamond. While the city wrestles with the issues of building a new ballpark, the fans continue to support the team and make it known that Central Virginia indeed has a love for the game of baseball.

The Flying Squirrels will open their home schedule on Thursday against Altoona, game time is 7pm at the Diamond. The Squirrels are expected to be an Eastern League contender this season led by the San Francisco Giants top young prospect in centerfielder Gary Brown. Expect many promotions and special events associated with the Flying Squirrels games this year as the team seems to specialize in being fan-friendly. Good Luck to our Richmond Flying Squirrels!
