General Motors is the latest company to put the brakes on endorsing Tiger Woods – whose troubles began when the golfer backed his Cadillac Escalade into a tree.

GM has joined the ranks of Gillette, AT&T, Gatorade, Accenture and Tag Heuer, all of which have dropped Woods. In addition, Woods no long may drive GM vehicles for free.

GM’s official endorsement contract actually ended in 2008, but the driving deal had been extended until Dec. 31, 2009, Buick spokeswoman Dayna Hart tells USA Today. The end date was set before the Thanksgiving crash and Woods’s subsequent “indefinite departure” from golf, which he announced on his Web site last month.
