Richmond, VA – Mayor Dwight C. Jones announced today that he will welcome President Barack Obama at Richmond International Airport on Friday morning, September 9, 2011. Mayor Jones said he will be at Richmond International Airport to greet the president on behalf of Richmond. He said he plans to thank President Obama for granting Virginia’s request for federal assistance for recovery from Hurricane Irene.

“This is extremely important assistance for our local government as we continue to work to recover from the hurricane damage,” said Mayor Jones. As a result of the president’s declaration, FEMA’s Public Assistance Program is available to cover damage to critical infrastructure, roads, buildings and equipment, debris removal and related emergency services.

The president will be visiting the University of Richmond to speak at the Robins Center about jobs and the economy. The event is free and open to the public who have secured entry tickets that will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.

“I’m looking forward to hearing the president’s jobs message,” continued Mayor Jones.  “Job-creation is foremost on everyone’s mind at this time. We are honored to have the president meet with us in Richmond to discuss this crucial topic.”
