          The 2011 college football season actually got underway last Saturday with the Virginia Union University Panthers defeating CIAA rival St. Augustine’s College 12-0 in Richmond.  The rest of the state’s teams will begin play this Saturday, September 3rd.  Virginia State University will renew its rivalry with Norfolk State in the Labor Day Classic at Dick Price Stadium in Norfolk, kickoff is 6pm.  Va. Union travels to Columbia, SC to take on Benedict College in the Palmetto Kickoof Classic.  The Cavaliers of UVA, in Mike London’s 2nd season, will open in Charlottesville vs. William & Mary.  The University of Richmond opens at Duke without its head coach Latrell Scott, who resigned just over a week ago.  The Hokies of Virginia Tech, ranked No. 13 nationally, will begin the season at home vs. Appalachian State.  The Dukes of James Madison take on the Tar Heels of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, and the Pirates of Hampton University will open at home vs. Alabama A & M, that’s a 5pm kickoff.
