North Carolina-based Food Lion has temporarily closed 25 of its stores in Virginia and Maryland because of Tuesday’s earthquake.
Company spokeswoman Christy Phillips-Brown said the grocer decided to close the stores as a precaution in order to inspect them for damage.
Phillips-Brown said she could not detail which stores had been closed or how long they could stay closed. She did confirm the store on Main Street in Louisa was one that had shut down, but she did not know the extent of damage there.
“We hope to reopen [the stores] as soon as possible,” she said.
