A new District of Columbia inspector general’s report says there was nothing unusual about the police escort given to actor Charlie Sheen, even though the police chief said it appeared to violate department protocol.
The report says the officers who used lights and sirens to escort Sheen from Dulles International Airport in northern Virginia to a performance in Washington last April followed department protocol, but should have coordinated with police in Virginia.
The report’s authors say they weren’t able to independently verify that the officers were speeding on the way to the concert hall, even though Sheen posted a picture on Twitter that appeared to show a speedometer registering about 80 mph.
The report makes 11 recommendations, including ensuring that Washington’s police department collaborates with neighboring law-enforcement agencies in the future.
