He replaced a legend in former coach Dave Robbins who won multiple CIAA titles and NCAA championships on his way to becoming one of college hoops’ all-time winningest coaches on any level. Today, it is Willard Coker who will be replaced. Coker toook over the Panthers helm in 2008 after serving as an assistant to Robbins for 23 years. In those three years, Coker was 55-25 overall and took VUU to the NCAA tournament in his first season. This season, a rare mediocre year for Union hoops, the Panthers were bounced from the CIAA Tournament in the quarterfinals. Both Virginia Union and Virginia State now actively shopping for new coaches.
