This past weekend, Richmond experienced one of its first BIG natural hair events. Coordinators, Keenya and Brandi conducted what they’ve named their 1rst Annual “Embrace Your Beauty” Natural Hair Extravaganza, and an extravaganza it was!
The event was held at the Comfort Inn on West Broad, and the conference room was filled with beautiful women of varying styles, from locks to twists to free flowing afros! It was awesome to see so many natural women in one place that were embracing their God-given hair! But don’t fret, I spotted some individuals who appeared to be curious to join the natural hair community. *smile*
There was lots to get into during the event. Vendors were invited out and there were array of them, Simply Love Leigh, a company that sells all natural body scrubs and whipped butters, Sarenzo Beads who sold beaded jewelry, and Karen Wilson who offers natural hair consultations and services, but that’s just to name a few! There as also a Jamaican food caterer that was there serving up plates that I heard was delicious! Along with vendors, there were segments that took place such as hair styling on the spot, speakers that spoke on confidence while being a natural beauty, spoken word poetry, and music by iPower 92.1’s own B-Sounds aka ADHD Bandit. And everybody knows, an event would not be complete without giveaways. Giveaways included products, gift certificates, and tee shirts.
Overall, for this to be first celebration put together by Keenya and Brandi, I found this to be a very well put together event. It provided everything a natural diva would want, products and accessories to purchase and food for the mind (and stomach!). I look forward to attending another meet up very soon!
