Triathlon is one of the fastest-growing sports in the world, and everyone is chomping at the bit to partake of the new lifestyle. From television faces to politicians – everyone is jumping on the multisport “bandwagon”, including KISS-FM’s new midday host Alexx Dupri.

Like most other triathletes competing in this weekend’s XTERRA East Championship off-road triathlon (Sport and Championship distance) on Brown’s Island, Alexx Dupri found her way to the triathlon because of a desire for fitness.

“As a triathlete, I always want to ‘up’ the intensity,” says Alexx, who completed an Ironman Triathlon 70.3 Championship last September.

According to Alexx Dupri, “Triathlons provide a platform for me to challenge myself on many levels. Each event is an opportunity to compete against the course, the time and the many physical and emotional hurdles that reveal themselves along the way.”

Triathletes of any background can be inspiring, although the celebrity spotlight can certainly help raise awareness, both to the sport and to any philanthropic endeavors. Local celebrities show that no matter what they do for a living, there’s always time for healthy hobbies like triathlons. And many participants make commitments to do races year after year, proving that it’s easy to get hooked on the sport. Though training for a triathlon may take some time, local celebs [like Alexx Dupri] find a way to fit it into their hectic schedules, just like other triathletes do.

It’s clear that regardless of schedules and spotlights, triathlon is more than just a sport—it’s truly a lifestyle.

“What compels me to keep doing triathlons is proving the notion that anything is possible,” says Alexx Dupri. “I am a flat-footed, clumsy, insomniac with asthma, who has broken her toes several times. If I can do it, anyone can.”
