Calling Martin’s tweets “regrettable and offensive,” CNN said Martin would “not be appearing on our air for the time being.” Martin later said on Twitter that he would meet with GLAAD, as the group had requested, after he apologized Tuesday for the Super Bowl tweets.

“I look forward to meeting with GLAAD in the near future and having a productive dialogue,” he tweeted.

The group tweeted back, “We look forward to a productive dialogue and to working together as well.”

The Twitter detente helped resolve a controversy that began with Martin’s tweets days before. GLAAD said two of Martin’s tweets on Sunday seemed to advocate violence against gays.

“If a dude at your Super Bowl party is hyped about David Beckham’s H&M underwear ad, smack the ish out of him!” he said in one tweet. In the other, he said, “Who the hell was that New England Patriot they just showed in a head to toe pink suit? Oh, he needs a visit from #teamwhipdatass.”

Martin later apologized, saying he did not advocate violence against gays or bullying. He also said he himself had been bullied.

To signal that he took the issue seriously, Martin also reported on Wednesday about Brandon White, a 20-year-old gay man who was viciously beaten by a gang of men shouting anti-gay slurs in Atlanta.

Details of Martin’s meeting with GLAAD are still being determined, the group said.

The CNN contributor and TV One host doesn’t appear to be getting fired from any of his gigs, despite the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation calling for his dismissal after Martin tweeted a bad joke in response to professional soccer player David Beckham’s Super Bowl underwear commercial.

After an initial attempt to explain his comment, Martin released a statement late Monday.

“Based on several tweets I made on my Twitter feed on Super Bowl Sunday yesterday, I have been accused by members of the LGBT community of being supportive of violence against gays and lesbians and bullying. That is furthest from the truth, and I sincerely regret any offense my words have caused,” wrote Martin.

“I have consistently said on television, radio, and in print, that I am steadfast against bullying. As I wrote on CNN.com, as well as said on the nationally syndicated Dr. Phil Show, I believe parents and schools need to take an active role in ending this epidemic that afflicts kids nationwide, gay or not.

“As I said repeatedly, I often make jokes about soccer in the U.S., and my crack about David Beckham’s commercial was related to that and not to anyone’s sexuality,” Martin continued. “To those who construed my comment as being anti-gay or homophobic or advancing violence, I’m truly sorry. I can certainly understand how someone could come to a different conclusion than the one I meant.

“I’m disheartened that my words would embolden prejudice. While public debate over social issues is healthy, no matter which side someone takes, there is no room for debate as to whether we need to be respectful of others. As someone who has spoken out forcefully against bigotry against African Americans and other minorities, as well as sexism against women, I fully understand how a group who has been unfairly treated would be offended by such comments, and, again, I am sorry for any offense my remarks caused.”

In GLAAD’s opinion, however, Martin’s seemingly sincere apology is only a start to making amends.

“Speaking out against anti-LGBT violence on his site is a start, but Martin should use his other platforms to fight against the very things he says he himself experienced,” the group said in response to his apology. “Media and those in it are very powerful forces in this country. GLAAD takes that very seriously and we hope that Roland Martin will in the future do so as well, whether it’s on CNN or in another outlet.”

GLAAD continued, “Ultimately, it’s up to CNN, viewers and readers to judge… the veracity of and commitment to his words today. CNN has thus far remained silent. They should not continue to do so. The time has come for Roland Martin to put actions behind his words. We call on him to meet with GLAAD and our partners to discuss how we can work together to address anti-LGBT violence faces communities all across the country.”

Reports state Cee Lo has been traveling to New York to practice with Madonna. He is expected to bring a new sound to some of Madonna’s classic hits.

Both artists, known for their wild and creative styles, will have to dazzle the crowd rather quickly. Madonna told ABC News, “I have eight minutes to set up my stage, 12 minutes to put on the greatest show on earth, and I have seven minutes to take it down so that football field is clean for the second half of the game.”

BET.com reports, this year’s host will be Wayne Brady.

Super Bowl XLVI will kick off with this traditional event on Friday Feb. 3 at Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana.

The highlight of the Super Bowl Gospel Celebration is the NFL Choir. Featuring current and former players, the choir has become one of the most anticipated performances during Super Bowl Weekend. Celebrating its five-year anniversary, the NFL Choir made its debut at the 2008 show with more than 40 members, including Ray Lewis and Bryant McKinnie (Ravens), under the direction of McClurkin, who will reprise his role this year joined by Myron Butler.

Several Christian NFL players who wanted to share their faith through their musical talents in song and instrument formed the Choir. The group offers fans an opportunity to see a usually personal side of the players. The NFL Players Choir will celebrate its anniversary singing with “American Idol” Fantasia.

This year’s event will feature faith inspired video vignettes by several current and former NFL players including Ray Lewis and Ray Rice (Ravens), Hines Ward and LaMarr Woodley (Steelers), Derrick Brooks (retired Buccaneers), and former NFL Coach, Tony Dungy.

Since its creation in 1999, the Super Bowl Gospel Celebration has consistantly donated a portion of its proceeds and more than 5,000 tickets to local and national charities.

This year, Gary Brackett’s IMPACT Foundation has been selected as the local charitable partner.

The Super Bowl will be streamed online and to phones in the U.S. for the first time, the NFL said Tuesday. NBC’s broadcasts of wild card Saturday, the Pro Bowl and the Super Bowl will be available on the league’s and network’s websites and through Verizon’s NFL Mobile app.

The service will include additional camera angles, in-game highlights and live stats – and replays of those always popular Super Bowl ads.

NBC has been streaming its “Sunday Night Football” telecasts for four seasons, and what the network has found is it’s not just being used by fans who can’t get in front of a set. Many of the page views come from people using the service as a complement to watching the game on TV.

That certainly would seem likely for the Super Bowl on Feb. 5 from Indianapolis. The game is annually by far the biggest attraction on television, with last season’s Packers-Steelers matchup drawing a record U.S. audience for any show with 111 million viewers.

“Whether it’s just for a quarter if somebody has to run out to the store to get something they forgot, now they can stay connected to the game,” Hans Schroeder, the NFL’s senior vice president of media strategy and development, told The Associated Press. “With such a big television audience, it will be interesting to see the expanded reach.”

NBC’s streams on Sunday nights typically average 200,000-300,000 viewers, compared with 21 million for the telecasts. The network has seen no evidence it hurts the traditional broadcasts’ healthy TV ratings. If anything, the extra options online may help keep fans glued to the games on their sets.

“We don’t want to limit ourselves to people not in front of the TV,” said Rick Cordella, vice president and general manager for NBC Sports Digital Media.

“The playoffs are appointment viewing,” he added. “People schedule their day around it.”

The NFL and NBC will do extensive research to find out exactly how many people are watching the streams and how they’re using them. What number of fans want to watch the Super Bowl each year but aren’t in front of a TV for whatever reason?

Schroeder wonders had this been around for the Super Bowl three years ago, if fans at parties would have used the service to watch Santonio Holmes’ toe-scraping winning touchdown catch for the Pittsburgh Steelers over and over again.

According to a joint statement by the NFL and NBC, which will air the big game, Madonna will get some help on the field by Cirque du Soleil.

So expect a spectacle.

The championship match-up takes place Feb. 5 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, which coincides nicely with the fact that Madonna will be releasing her first album since 2008′s Hard Candy around then.
