The New York Football Giants came home from Super Bowl XLVI with the Lombardi Trophy in hand following an exciting 21-17 victory over the New England Patriots, and were cheered by over a million of their fans who crowded the streets of Manhattan to be in on the celebration of the Giants’ 4th NFL title and the second in four years. The party shifted to Met Life Stadium in New Jersey where the team plays, and some 30,000 more fans awaited them there to greet the World Champions. President Obama called Giants Head Coach Tom Coughlin to congratulate the team and invite them to the White House in honor of their acheivement.

As Super Bowl XLVI approaches this weekend, the New York Giants will offer something different than what we saw in Sunday’s Pro Bowl….. DEFENSE! Sure, it’s not a “real” game, and nobody wants to get hurt, but my goodness, 100 points? That’s ridiculous. The AFC won it going away 59-41. A nice Hawaiian vacation. No vacation on Sunday for the New England offensive line who must face that fearsome Giants defensive front. QB Tom Brady already knows what he’s up against, and so far, the Patriots have been unable to solve it. New York won an earlier meeting in the regualr season, and took them down in Super Bowl 42 after New England came in undefeated. For the G-Men, QB Eli Manning gets to play in the stadium his big brother practically built in Indianapolis, and despite often being cast as a “non-elite” at his position, he’s still got plenty of incentive going into Super Sunday.

Once one of the top wide receivers in the NFL, Terrell Owens is currently facing a “financial disaster” according to GQ Magazine.

Terrell Owens, the former NFL star receiver, who has signed to play for and co-own the Allen Rangers, in the Indoor League, is friendless and nearly broke, he told GQ magazine. “I’m in hell,” Owens, 38, said he tells people who ask about his well-being.

After the Cincinnati Bengals did not renew his one-year, $2 million contract last year, Owens has been suffering from his financial shortcomings, including ventures gone bad and child support for his four children, he said.

The $80 million or so he had made in his career is almost gone, he said, but not because he lived a lavish lifestyle.

In GQ’s February issue, Owens said his financial advisers lured him into risky investments such as an Alabama entertainment complex that cost him $2 million. He later learned the venture was illegal in the state and violated the NFL’s policy of prohibiting players from investing in gambling, he said.

Owens is attempting to sell the numerous homes he bought prior to the housing crisis, however most of the houses he purchased are no longer worth what he paid for just a few years ago. He is currently paying as much as $750,000 per year in mortgages.

Owens also pays $44,600 a month in child support for his four children, ages 5 to 12, with four different women, according to GQ.

The football player laments about losing trust in people and friends. When people text and ask where he is, he answers, “I’m in hell.”

“I don’t have no friends,” he told GQ. ”I don’t want no friends. That’s how I feel.”

In the GQ article, Owens blames the media for not giving him a chance to rehab his injury and blames agent Drew Rosenhaus for not protecting him from a bad business arrangement.

The problem, he says, is that he’s by nature too trusting, loyal to a fault, and that he let other people “take care of things.”

“I hate myself for letting this happen,” Owens told GQ. “I believed that they had my back when they said, ‘You take care of the football, and we’ll do the rest.’ And in the end, they just basically stole from me.”

Owens has also found himself friendless, thanks to a growing sense of distrust thanks to his many unfortunate dealings.

He never had many friends – teammates never called him to party, he says, wrongly assuming that he was “too big” to socialize – and now, “I don’t have no friends. I don’t want no friends. That’s how I feel.”

“If there’s anything I’m sorry about, it’s getting involved with all that.” He never actually dated any of the women, he says. One was a one-night stand, the others “repeat offenders.” Owens, who has never been married, concedes he is “not a very good judge of character.” Still, he “never suspected they were the types to do what they done in the past year.”

When money became an issue, Owens had to reduce the amount he paid to each of the women, and three of them sued him. A warrant was issued for his arrest when he didn’t show up for a court date with the mother of his oldest child.

Owens is now in court with all four women. None of them are being fair, he says: “They know I’m not working; they know the deal.” Although he never established regular visitation with any of the children through the courts, he says he sees the eldest three as much as he can when their mothers allow it. So bitter is his relationship with the mother of the youngest child, a son, that he has never met the boy.

Owens’ career is defined as much by its theatrics than for its statistical body of work. Some decisions, he admits, may have been handled differently now. But at this point of his life, he’s not willing to look back.

“To say I regret anything would be a slap to my grandmother’s face,” Owens says, referring to the woman who raised him.

Owens remains confident bordering on cocksure, convinced – even with a medically repaired ACL – that he is capable of the spectacular playmaking ability of his youth. It’s not his talent that keeps teams from calling, he insists, but instead a reputation cast onto him by the reporters he often held hostage.

“I think people change, but the media, they never allowed me to change,” Owens says. “They never allowed me to be a better person.”

Owens says he’s never been diagnosed as clinically depressed but he’s been “real down.”

You hate to see it happen to any player, especially when he’s a member of “your” team. In this case, it was Kyle Williams, the San Francisco 49ers punt returner, who by all accounts is a heckuva player, but on Sunday, he made two costly mistakes that cost the 49ers a chance to go to Super Bowl XLVI. Certainly, mistakes are a part of the game as is the agony of defeat, but San Francisco fans are hungry, and now they’re angry. And they’re taking their anger out on Williams. According to his father, Kenny Williams, who is General Manager of the Chicago White Sox, his son received several death threat on social media networks. SF fans on Twitter completely berated Williams for his costly errors in Sunday’s game, especially the fumble that led to the Giants game-winning field goal. Williams’ dad questions where the culture of sports is going with fans taking a game seriously enough to threaten a player’s life.

Terrell Owens’ return to the Dallas area won’t be as triumphant as he hoped. The former NFL star announced Wednesday that he signed to play for an Indoor Football League team in the Dallas suburb of Allen.

T.O. posted a brief message on Twitter in which he said he’ll be a co-owner and player for the Allen Wranglers.

Wranglers co-owner Jon Frankel also reported on Jan. 18 that Owens, 38, and the Wranglers had come to an agreement.

“He’s a great player, a winner, and I’m a big fan,” Frankel said. “I want to make the Allen Wranglers the No. 1 attraction in Collin County.”

The deal is reportedly worth up to $500,000 for the 2012 season. Most IFL players generally earn $400 per game, plus a bonus for winning.

The Indoor Football League is comprised of 16 teams that are spread out across the country but concentrated primarily in the midsection of the U.S. Some teams are located in cities that should be familiar to Owens, such as Chicago and Green Bay. For other teams, Owens will likely need a road map.

Rio Rancho, New Mexico. Grand Island, Nebraska. Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Wichita, Kansas. These are all sites of road games for the 2012 Wranglers. There is nothing wrong with these cities – they’re just not places where Owens is used to performing his act.

Terrell Owens had a successful season with the Cincinnati Bengals in 2010, but suffered an ACL injury in the offseason. Most players his age never fully recover from an injury of that type. But Owens held a workout in October to prove that he was 100% ready – unfortunately, no NFL team reps attended.

This caused T.O. to look for work opportunities elsewhere. He found it in Allen. Wranglers GM and former Cowboys receiver Drew Pearson helped lure T.O. to the team.

The Wranglers’ schedule begins Feb. 25. But don’t get too excited, Owens hasn’t decided whether he’ll play in all games or just ones at home. Nothing builds team chemistry quite like a prima donna who earns a king’s ransom while the rest of the guys make peanuts, and who can’t be bothered with traveling or participating in half of the games.

Had Owens truly been interested in showcasing his football skills in hopes of a return to the NFL, he could have chosen a spot in the Arena Football League (AFL), the league that gets national television exposure every week on the NFL Network. Instead, he’s selling himself as a circus attraction for a half-million dollars. There’s very little TV exposure for the IFL.

Indoor football is also a different game than traditional outdoor football. It’s much faster, and it’s played in much smaller spaces. In particular, wide receivers in indoor football rely on quick acceleration and speed to succeed. At 38 years old, coming off a torn ACL, and not having played football in two years, Owens doesn’t exactly jump off the page as an indoor football superstar.

No doubt the Wranglers will see a boost in ticket sales until the novelty wears off, or until Owens routinely gets smoked on the turf and blows games for his team while trying to turn back time and re-live the glory days – whichever comes first.

They said he can’t throw, they said he wouldn’t be able to run in the NFL, in fact, none of what is happening with Denver Broncos QB Tim Tebow is supposed to be happening. So are we dreaming? Should we not believe our own eyes? He’s running, he’s throwing, he’s won the AFC West title as a rookie, he defeated the vaunted Pittsburgh defense in a playoff game, and if they don’t watch out, this dream could turn into a Super Bowl nightmare…..for those who said that none of this could happen for Tim Tebow. How good is it for Tebow right now? ESPN recently conducted a poll of it’s millions of viewers who have voted Tebow as America’s most popular pro athlete. Now that’s saying something for a QB who just can’t get it done…..or so THEY say. Who are THEY anyway?

Go to any youth sporting event and you’ll see them screaming from the sidelines, fanatically invested parents pushing their kids to win — and yelling at them when they don’t. “This really hurts the kids. Sports should be fun,” says NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, who comes to the rescue in the new Veria Living television series “Sports Dads,” playing host and counselor to sports-obsessed families.

“These dads are living vicariously through their kids and putting too much pressure on them,” says Sanders in a recent BET interview. Sanders says he has seen many pushy parents in his pro career and as a youth mentor. The father of five children, two from his first marriage, and three from his second, the demise of which made headlines last month, Sanders admits to pushing his kids, but not in an overbearing way, “just to be the best and succeed in athletics or whatever they choose to do.” His eldest son, Deion Jr., is following in his gridiron footsteps, playing high school football.

Sanders, who played the outfield for four Major League Baseball teams and played several positions for five pro football franchises, winning Super Bowl rings with the 49ers and the Cowboys, is now an analyst for NFL TV and runs the Texas-based youth foundation Prime Time Association and Prime Prep Academy, both carrying on his sports nickname, Prime Time. “My whole life is about kids,” he says.

Sanders is currently developing other television projects, but has no plans to follow some of his sports star buddies into competition on Dancing With the Stars. “They’ve asked me,” he says, but blames old foot injuries for having to decline the offer. “My broken toes can’t take the pressure,” he explains.

“Sports Dads” premieres January 13 on Veria Living.

The high altitude of Denver's Mile High Stadium, could have possibly had a negative affect on Clark's condition and he previously had to have a gall bladder removed and lost 30 pounds to Sickle Cell after a 2007 game in Denver.

CNN reports:

But the CDC cautions that those with sickle cell trait can experience complications during both athletic activity and when at high altitudes. Denver, known as the Mile-High City, is 5,280 feet above sea level. Pittsburgh is about 770 feet above sea level.

Clark has been the Steelers’ busiest defender this season, according to ESPN.com. He has been on the field for 1,009 snaps this season, or 98.7% of the team’s defensive plays. He led the team with 100 tackles.

While most of America is still wondering where are the jobs, it should be noted that there are job opportunities available right now around the National Football League as several head Coaches have been fired already, and the playoffs haven’t begun. Several other coaches waited in limbo as their respective teams made decisions for next year. The St. Louis Rams fired Steve Spagnuolo, the Tampa Bay Bucaneers dismissed Raheem Morris (pic above), and the Miami Dolphins let go of Tony Sporano. There is talk in DC that the Redskins may shake up the entire organization as Mike Shanahan has endured two dismal seasons in a row, even worse than the coach he replaced, Jim Zorn, but so far Dan Snyder has been mum. In Dallas, Jason Garrett is said to be safe according to Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, but some fans in the Dallas Nation want change after seeing another chance at the playoffs snatched away. Minnesota & Indianapolis could be still evaluating as well. Jeff Fisher and Bill Cowher are the biggest fish in the coaching seas. The Rams have interviewed Fisher already……

It’s probably very difficult for an NFL player to hear someone tell him that his career is probably over. It’s probably even harder for that news to come from a judge.

That’s what happened to Terrell Owens on Wednesday, though. Owens was in court in an attempt to reduce his child support payments because he’s broke, but Judge Marc Marmaro decided to get judgmental.

Here’s what went down, according to reports:

T.O.’s lawyer made it clear – his client is a man without a team and therefore a man without a paycheck. The judge went one step further, telling T.O. his prospects for a comeback are bleak.

Judge Marmaro said, “His NFL career seems to be over. I mean no disrespect.” T.O. nodded his head in acknowledgment.

What a sad head nod that must’ve been. The news had to come from a judge.

The judge wasn’t totally heartless, though. He did offer a little bit of support to Owens, telling him that Kurt Warner made a run to the Super Bowl after a stop in the Arena League.

Of course, he left out the part about Kurt Warner not being 38 years old at the time, coming off a catastrophic knee injury, or being saddled with the label of a malcontent team-killer. The stories may not be totally similar.

The judge has not yet ruled on whether or not he’ll lower Owens’ child support payments. Lowering the boom on his NFL hopes was enough for one day.
