Tatyana grew up in a household that spoke Spanish and fully embraced Panamanian culture, often indulging in the food, music, and dance. However, Tatyana knew little of the family life her mom left behind. All she knew was that her grandmother had fled Panama to escape an abusive marriage and relocated to America.

Tatyana, 32, seemed to have it all. After landing the “Fresh Prince…” role, starting a successful R&B career, and graduating from Harvard, she felt she was still missing something. Since childhood, she harbored a desire to re-connect with her family’s heritage, history and culture. “It’s much easier to know exactly where you’re going when you know where you come from,” shared Ali about her experiences on her life-changing trip to Panama.

In “Pastport: Panama”, Tatyana not only fills this long-held void in her life, but manages to fulfill a life long dream to sing in Spanish before a live audience. With their mother serving as their personal tour guide, Tatyana and her younger sister, Anastasia, explore Panama and bring their heritage to life.

If you don’t remember, Will Smith first made his name in the music industry with his good friend as DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince, and went on to carve out a successful solo rap career as well as working as a film star.

They have remained close over the years and Jazzy Jeff recently visited Smith on the set of his new movie, ‘Men in Black III,’ and the conversation turned to potential performance opportunities.

Jazzy Jeff (real name Jeffrey Townes) insists that if they do plan some shows this year, they will be short, surprise appearances.

He says, “We actually had a conversation about doing some pop-up performances on people. We might do Brand New Funk and Summertime and walk off. It’s just crazy him being the number one movie star in the world… I tease him all the time and (we are) trying to find the time to do it.”

“The problem is he’s probably the biggest movie star on the planet.  Being in that position, it doesn’t make for a lot of time for music.”

Before Will Smith was regarded as being a hit-maker for the box office, the actor was known as the Fresh Prince and made noise, alongside DJ Jazzy Jeff, on the music side.  Together, the duo were able to heat up music and put Philadelphia on the map.

The Philly scene now includes the likes of Beanie Sigel, Gillie the Kid, Cassidy and others that are complete opposites of the Fresh Prince, but they will always be recognized as the first to do it and watch it blow up in the mainstream.

Although their career choices have gone in two different directions, Jeff maintains that the relationship between the two hasn’t been shaken in all of these years.  During promotion for the recently released video game, DJ Hero, Jeff speaks on how everything has essentially fallen in place for the two.

“People don’t realize about my relationship with Will is [that] this is exactly what we planned on doing.  That’s one of the things that we talk about more than anything.  I remember when Will and I first got together, we kinda had a dream session and he was like, ‘You know what, I wanna do movies’ and I was like, ‘Wow, I wanna do music’ and I was like maybe I can do music for your movies.”

He added how the movie industry has been a factor as to why the two haven’t been able to link up again musically, although they have made constant attempts.

“I think that a lot of the movie people hate when I come around because they know that I’m going to try to twist his arm to do some music.  It’s hard.  He really wants to do it, but being one of the biggest movie stars on the planet, we’ll talk about ‘Oh man, we wanna do this tour and go here’ and then he’ll call me and say ‘Hey, guess what? I was nominated for an Oscar.  It’s kinda like, ehh so much for the tour.”

Whatever the case may be, the DJ states that the two still have moments where they are in awe of where their careers have gone since the days of “Summertime”, but through it all, they have continued  to remain level-headed to one another as friends and have sat in anticipation for the day where they can finally make their return.
