After 10 p.m. on Saturday, the local sheriff’s department was called to a home that had cries coming from the basement.  What police discovered was a 62-year-old man lying on the floor screaming for help. The elderly man, whose name has not been released, had both eyeballs dangling about a quarter inch from his face.

The man reportedly told police that he and his 32-year-old nephew had been fussing over the remote control.  After breaking the remote in a fit of rage, Holman, who is 140 pounds heavier and five inches taller than the uncle, allegedly flung the uncle to the floor and then straddled him. According to the uncle, once Holman dislodged his eyeballs out of their sockets with his thumbs, he pushed him down the basement stairs.

Holman already has a criminal record of 25 arrests, including everything from assault, narcotics, and weapons charges, and has been cuffed and charged with aggravated domestic battery. His bond was set on Tuesday for $1 million.

As for the uncle, he is now reportedly blind in his left eye and can barely see out of his right.  He will have to undergo additional surgery in order to save what little vision is left in his right eye.

When porn star and weekend skydiving instructor Alex Torres decided to film himself and skydive company receptionist Hope Howell having sex at thousands of feet above ground, it seemed like they had covered all the bases. According to reports, they filmed the stunt in the very early morning where no one could be disturbed and no public nudity complaints could be thrown their way.

But now the Taft Police Department is involved, and this stunt suddenly seems a lot less fun. Both the Taft Police and the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) are investigating whether the pilot of the plane should be cited for allowing this to happen. While it is technically legal to have sex in a private plane, The Sacramento Bee reports that “FAA spokesman Ian Gregor says any activity that could distract the pilot while he’s flying could be a violation of federal regulations.” The skydiving sweethearts are reported to having started the act on the plane and then continued once they jumped out in tandem into the air.

Skydive Taft owner David Chrouch, the owner of Skydive Taft (the name of the skydiving school and the owner of the plane) has fired Alex Torres, but hasn’t decided yet if he will fire the company’s receptionist, Hope Howell. Authorities have also reported that Torres had the video on his blog but removed it. At this time, no criminal charges are pending.

UPDATE:

The Federal Aviation Administration says a videotaped skydiving sex stunt did not result in a violation of any regulations and the pilot wasn’t distracted during the incident over Kern County.

FAA spokesman Ian Gregor said Thursday that available video evidence confirms the pilot’s account that he was not distracted and the shoot didn’t interfere with his duties.

The video shows part-time skydiving instructor and porn star Alex Torres and the receptionist from Skydive Taft engaging in sex in the plane and after jumping out.

Boosie’s message from prison was sent as a letter and read over the phone to the 15-year-old  by one of his close friends.

Richmond Police need the public’s help to identify the man who robbed a local Fas Mart on Saturday. He’s pictured in the below three surveillance photos.

At approximately 6:40 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 9, a man walked into the Fas Mart at 2107 Semmes Ave. and asked the clerk for a carton of cigarettes.

When the clerk went to get them, the robber pulled out a gun and robbed the store. He stole an undisclosed amount of money as well as five cartons of Newport cigarettes.

The robber is described as a black male between the ages of 23 and 25; approximately 5’10” to 6’02” in height and weighing between 180 pounds to 200 pounds. He was armed with a small, black handgun, possibly a revolver.

He was last seen wearing a tan-colored, medium-sized jacket with dark brown fur trimming, a large, dark-colored knit cap, sunglasses, dark-colored jeans and light brown shoes.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 780-1000.

It’s been nearly two years since the horrific murders of her mother, brother and nephew and singer Jennifer Hudson is still searching for closure.

The prime suspect in the murders, William Balfour – who was charged in late 2008 – has been granted yet another continuance today, leaving no end in sight once again.

Vincent Smothers pleaded guilty to eight counts of second-degree murder and a gun charge in exchange for a minimum sentence of 52-years in prison. With credit for time served since his arrest, he could be freed when he’s about 80 years old.

Smothers shocked detectives two years ago when he confessed to the eight slayings during around-the-clock interrogations. He told investigators his hits were all related to the drug trade except for the final one, the killing of 47-year-old Rose Cobb on the day after Christmas in 2007.

Jury selection was to begin Monday in Wayne County Circuit Court for the Cobb slaying.

“He’s just glad there’s closure for everybody,” defense attorney Gabi Silver told The Associated Press after the hearing.

Including Smothers? “Everybody,” she replied.

Without the deal, “we’d have to try eight cases,” assistant prosecutor Robert Stevens said after the hearing. “It’s an equitable resolution with a substantial amount of time.”

Cobb was killed while sitting in her van outside a pharmacy. Police said Smothers, wearing a ski mask, broke a window with a tire iron and shot her in the head.

He told police that Cobb’s husband arranged the killing while having an affair. David Cobb was never charged and hanged himself in September 2008.

“My stomach was in knots,” Smothers told detectives after his April 2008 arrest. “I felt like she was innocent. … All the rest were dope dealers.”

“I don’t have a profession,” Smothers told police. “I kill people for money.”

Smothers received a 50-year minimum sentence for the murder charges and a two-year sentence for the gun charge.

TRENTON, New Jersey — Two men and three teenage boys were charged Saturday with gang-raping a 7-year-old girl who was sold by her 15-year-old stepsister during a party at a crime-ridden apartment building in the state’s capital, police said.

Details of the arrests were announced at a Saturday evening news conference outside police headquarters. Police Director Irving Bradley said detectives had been working around the clock since the crime was reported March 28.

“We did get a lot of cooperation from the community, which helped break this case,” Bradley said.

Those arrested included Gregory Joseph Leary, 20, in custody since Friday, when he was charged with having sex with the 15-year-old. The other four are Timear Lewis, 19, and boys ages 13, 14 and 17. Each was charged with aggravated sexual assault and child endangerment.

Prosecutors likely would seek to try all of them as adults, Mercer County prosecutor Joseph Bocchini said.

The suspects, who were to be assigned public defenders, were being held Saturday night and couldn’t be contacted for comment. There was no telephone listing for Lewis; a telephone for a G. Leary had been disconnected.

The case shocked residents of the gritty Rowan Towers apartment building, where three of those arrested live, police Capt. Joseph Juniak said.

Building management has stepped up its security presence there and promised additional safety measures. Residents have expressed skepticism that the apartments would become safer.

Police say the 15-year-old girl went to a party with some men at Rowan Towers on March 28 and the younger girl tagged along because she was worried about her stepsister’s safety. They say the 15-year-old sold sex to men and boys there, then took money to let them touch the younger girl. They say the touching turned to forcible sex as at least seven men raped the 7-year-old.

Additional arrests are expected, police said.

Before Saturday’s arrest announcement, the 15-year-old had been charged with promoting prostitution, aggravated sexual assault and other crimes. Police have not released her name, and she remained in juvenile detention Saturday night.

Mayor Doug Palmer, who met with the 7-year-old girl and her family in his office on Thursday, described their ordeal as a “torment.”

“They’re in a safe place right now,” he said. “I would ask that the community embrace this family — they are going through a lot.”

Palmer gave the girl a stuffed bunny rabbit for Easter. He said the family is getting counseling and indicated it may be permanently relocated away from the city.

He credited the police force for its hard work but said the investigation into “this heinous crime” isn’t done.

“We’re not finished because everyone who is responsible is still not arrested,” he said. “The police will not rest until we get every individual who was involved in this.”

Police earlier in the week urged residents to come forward, but neighbors said they were scared of retaliation from gangs that prowl the streets if they spoke up.

Rowan Towers sits on a stretch of West State Street near downtown Trenton and is surrounded by blocks of abandoned, boarded-up homes.

City Councilwoman Annette Lartique, who represents the area where the crime occurred, said the high-rise has been plagued by crime.

Besides the parents and the 7-year-old, Palmer met with a grandmother, two younger children and other relatives.

“They were understandably upset,” Palmer said. “They felt like they were victims. They said, ‘People are blaming us.’ We need to stop pointing fingers at the family members. These rapists are the problem, not the family.”

Of the girl’s parents, the woman is the mother of the 7-year-old girl, and the man is the father of the 15-year-old. They two have toddlers together.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Michael Jackson’s doctor was charged Monday with involuntary manslaughter, capping an exhaustive investigation into the pop star’s stunning death last summer and setting up the prospect of another sensational celebrity courtroom drama.

Dr. Conrad Murray, a cardiologist who was with Jackson when he died June 25 at his rented Los Angeles mansion, is accused of acting “unlawfully and without malice” in bringing about Jackson’s death, according to a complaint filed by prosecutors.

The complaint said Murray acted “without the caution and circumspection required” when he administered a powerful sedative to Jackson in an effort to help him sleep.

The charge was expected, and Murray’s attorney, Ed Chernoff, said his client planned to surrender to authorities later Monday.

“We’ll make bail, we’ll plead not guilty and we’ll fight like hell,” Chernoff said before the charge was filed.

Jackson hired Murray to be his personal physician as he prepared for a series of strenuous comeback concerts in London. Officials say the singer died after Murray administered the powerful general anesthetic propofol and two other sedatives to get the chronic insomniac to sleep.

Los Angeles investigators were methodical in building a case against Murray, wary of repeating missteps that have plagued some other high-profile celebrity cases, most notably O.J. Simpson and actor Robert Blake, both of whom were acquitted of murder.

After reviewing toxicology findings, the coroner ruled Jackson’s death at age 50 a homicide caused by acute intoxication of the powerful anesthetic propofol, with other sedatives a contributing factor.

Propofol is only supposed to be administered by an anesthesia professional in a medical setting, because it depresses breathing and heart rate while lowering blood pressure.

Murray appears to have obtained the drug legally and its use is not in itself a crime. To show the doctor was negligent in his care, detectives spoke to more than 10 medical experts to see if his behavior fell outside the bounds of reasonable medical practice.

According to court documents, Murray told police he administered propofol just before 11 a.m. then stepped out of the room to go to the bathroom.

There is some dispute about what happened next. According to court filings, Murray told police that upon his return from the bathroom, he saw Jackson was not breathing and began trying to revive him.

But an ambulance was not called until 12:21 p.m. and Murray spent much of the intervening time making non-emergency cell phone calls, police say. The nature of the calls, which lasted 47 minutes, is not known.

Murray’s lawyer has said investigators got confused about what Murray had told them, and that the doctor found his patient unresponsive around noon.

The investigation included several agencies, including the Los Angeles Police Department, the district attorney’s office and the federal Drug Enforcement Administration.

Many witnesses have been interviewed by police, including those who were present during Jackson’s last days, those who worked with him in preparation for his series of comeback concerts, “This Is It,” and members of his personal entourage, including his security guard and personal assistant.

Michael Jackson Death Case To Be Filed Monday

LOS ANGELES — Michael Jackson’s doctor wanted to seek his day in court Friday by surrendering before being charged in the singer’s death, but prosecutors upstaged the plan by announcing that no case would be filed until next week.

District attorney’s spokeswoman Sandi Gibbons released the plan less than two hours before Dr. Conrad Murray and his attorneys were going to show up at an airport-area courthouse in an effort to force the prosecution’s hand while avoiding having the physician arrested and handcuffed.

Gibbons’ statement did not mention Murray, but said information on charges will be released after the case is filed on Monday.

A news conference that had been scheduled Friday afternoon by Murray’s defense team in lieu of his surrender was canceled an hour before it was to begin at a park near the courthouse.

Murray’s attorneys have said they expect the Texas cardiologist to be charged with involuntary manslaughter for administering drugs to Jackson before his death on June 25. It was not immediately clear if Murray would return to Houston, where he has a practice, or remain in Los Angeles through the weekend.

Lead defense attorney Ed Chernoff spoke Thursday with prosecutor David Walgren and was told to be at the courthouse at 1:30 p.m. PST (2130 GMT) Friday, only to have the county sheriff’s department, which handles court security, publicly say hours later that it was called off, defense team spokeswoman Miranda Sevcik said earlier Friday.

“What does it take to surrender in L.A.?” Sevcik said. “I feel like Ed should show up in the courthouse with a big white flag.”

Walgren declined to comment Friday.

The legal gamesmanship over Murray’s surrender followed several days of negotiations in which his lawyers tried to arrange with prosecutors for the doctor to surrender for booking and arraignment.

Those plans were derailed by haggling between prosecutors and law enforcement officials over whether the physician should be arrested or allowed to turn himself in.

“It seems ridiculous to us that it’s been dragging on this long,” Sevcik said. “We’ve been here all week long, for God’s sake. What’s the holdup? To us this is showmanship and we are just done.”

In the seven months since Jackson’s sudden death at 50 while rehearsing for a major comeback concert series, Murray has largely stayed out of view. His lawyers have spoken very little. And prosecutors and investigators have been tightlipped.

Sevcik said prosecutors told Murray on Thursday he’d face one count of involuntary manslaughter.

Murray became the focus of the probe into Jackson’s death shortly after he called paramedics on June 25 to report that the singer wasn’t breathing. Murray told police he gave the Jackson a powerful anesthetic and other sedatives that were blamed on his death.

The doctor maintains nothing he gave Jackson should have killed him but sees a charge as inevitable, Sevcik said.

“We know he’s going to be charged with involuntary manslaughter and we are ready with a counter argument,” Sevcik said. “He’s not guilty — that’s our argument.”

Various factors weighed into the desire of the Los Angeles Police Department to arrest Murray, including the possibility he might flee before arraignment, just as O.J. Simpson did, a law enforcement official close to the investigation told The Associated Press.

Top brass at the LAPD, which spent the past seven months investigating Murray, were unhappy with the idea of him surrendering because it could appear Murray was being given special treatment, according to the official who was not authorized to speak publicly and requested anonymity.

The official said the district attorney’s office opposed an early plan for detectives to make the arrest Friday morning.
