Eesha Khare, attends Lynbrook High School in California. She beat out 1,600 other finalists from over 70 countries to win the 2013 Intel International Science and Engineering Fair.

She walked away with $50,000 for the win. She plans on putting her winnings towards her education at Harvard University in Cambridge, Ma.

43-year-old Sheldon Martinez, who was popularly known as DJ Saxwell, died from injuries he received from the car accident.

According to local police, Martinez’s car traveled across a patch of grass, two lanes of traffic and then flipped over into a canal. Police have not identified what caused him to lose control of the vehicle.

Martinez’s funeral will be held May 25, 2013 at 12pm at the Faithworld Church in Altamonte Springs, Fl.

The tornado that devastated the Oklahoma City area on Monday and destroyed the town of Moore, Oklahoma is being labeled as perhaps “the worst tornado in American history”. That assessment could very well be true with a quickly mounting death toll that stood at 51 as of 9pm Monday night. Search & recovery crews were digging through the rubble as night fell in Oklahoma, but not before the bodies of two dozen third-grade school children were pulled from one of two schools completely flattened by the twister.

Some 150 people were also reportedly hospitalized at that same hour and some 30% of them were said to be in critical condition after the tornado tore through a 20-mile path of destruction and death, snashing an entire community that returned to find nothing left. First-responders were on the scene as quickly as they could navigate all of the roadblocks and debris, and were said to hear the cries of help from the many people who were trapped in the nountains of mangled homes.

In 1986, the Point of Pines village was added to the National Register of Historic Places. Now, with the assistance of the Edisto Island Historical Preservation Society, the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture will take one of the cabins for display. Plank-by-plank, the reconstruction will be added to the major exhibits.

For all the hoopla and haters who came out of the woodwork when the Chicago Bulls pulled off the Game 1 upset in the Miami Heat, their efforts to rattle the champs appears to have been fruitless. appears it was all a fluke.  NBA MVP LaBron James and crew just shook off the criticism and the rust then politely showed Chicago the Playoff Exit door,   Miami now faces the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Finals which begin Wednesday evening at South Beach.  Unlike the Chicago series, the Heat’s layoff between wasn’t as long and James has vowed that Miami will be “ready” on Day 1.  The way the Pacers are playing defense, they had better be…

Indiana wore the New York Knicks down in their NBA Eastern Conference series with tenacious defense and  strong rebounding, something New York seemed to have no answer for.  Center Roy Hibbert is holding his own in the middle, and if the Pacers can control LaBron and get some perimeter stops, then this could be a very interesting series.

The Western Conference Finals got underway on Sunday in San Antonio with the Spurs again have proving that no matter the circumstances, this team knows how to win, and knows how to close out an opponent.   Been there, done that. And on Sunday, San Antonio did it again in Game 1 of their series with the upstart Memphis Grizzlies.  The Spurs fans must have been shocked to learn the NBA had a team in Memphis, or so it seemed as the Spurs spotted the Griz a 2 – 0 lead, then crushed ‘em en route to a 105 – 83 rout.

Granted, Memphis had to expend a lot of energy to dispose of Oklahoma City, so maybe with a short 2-day break, a little jet-lag, and a strong opponent, we can scrap Game 1 for the Grizzlies. But the inside duo of Zach Randolph and Mark Gasol will have to impose themselves against Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobilli if the Griz really want to have a chance against this veteran Spurs team that’s no stranger to these NBA Playoffs.
