In Virginia, there is an election every year.   Thanks to the voters who did exercise their right to vote.   How did we do?

Will the republicans regain control in the state senate? There is no announcement of a victory as of yet, Senator Edd Houck has represented the 17th district since 1984, but his challenger Republican Bryce Reeves has a slight lead in the race. Reeves has 50% of the votes to Houck’s  49%. A recount of the votes is possible.

If Reeves wins, the GOP and Democrats would be split at 20 seats apiece but Republican Lieutenant Governor Bill Bolling would break the possibility of any ties.

The republicans still have control over the House of Delegates but Delegate Joe Morrissey regained his seat with a 72% lead over his opponent Independent Dwayne Whitehead, Sr. with 27%

The race for the 16 district in the senate resulted in Senator Henry L. Marsh, III regaining his seat with 69% of the vote to Independent Preston T. Brown with 30%

The hot race was in Henrico County for Commonwealth’s Attorney, the underdog Democrat Shannon Taylor rose to the top with 45% over longtime Republican and former Delegate Bill Janis who ran as an independent with 38%; And, Republican Matt Geary came in at a distant third with 16%. Geary lost the county GOP’s support in September.

Democrat Pastor Tyrone Nelson won the Varina District Supervisor’s race in Henrico County.  Nelson defeated 20 year Republican incumbent Jim Donati, JR. Nelson won the race by 53% to Donati’s 35%
