Grammy-winning singer R. Kelly faces a $2.9 million foreclosure on his south suburban Chicago mansion.

Officials reported Tuesday that JPMorgan Chase Bank filed a foreclosure lawsuit last month in Cook County Circuit Court. The complaint states that Kelly hasn’t made monthly mortgage payments since June of last year.

Reportedly, the Olympia Fields home’s appraised value fell 26% in a year, to $3.8 million in 2010. The original 1999 loan was for $3.5 million

The principal due is more than $2.9 million.

The house and its gated estate were constructed for R. Kelly 11 years ago. The house is 11,140 square feet, and features 6 full bathrooms, 7 half-baths, and a 4-car garage.

R. Kelly (real name Robert Sylvester Kelly) recently made entertainment headlines for making remixes of several current hits, including Britney Spears’ hit “Till the World Ends,” and Mariah Carey’s “Betcha Gon’ Now.” He has also been on a tour in conjunction with his recent album “Love Letter”.

But Kelly has also been dogged by a new scandal. Last month, his former manager Jeff Kwatinetz sued him for $1 million, on the grounds that Kelly used Kwatinetz’s commission to settle sexual misconduct allegations.

R. Kelly was acquitted in 2008 of child pornography charges, after being accused of videotaping himself having sex with and urinating on an underage girl. The case took 6 years to go to trial.

Prosecutors said the video was shot in Kelly’s mansion at 1010 W. George St. in the South Lakeview neighborhood. That house went on the market for $3.89 million in 2010.

Allan Mayer, R. Kelly’s current spokesman says Kelly lives in the city of Chicago and is not in financial trouble.
