GRTC’S Bus Fare Will Not Go Up For Now

The GRTC bus fare increase set to go into effect on August 1st has been postponed for now. CEO John Lewis told Richmond City Council that he has seen an increase in bus ridership which makes up for low ride cost rates. The 25 cents bus fare increase may come by late September. Richmond Denny’s Employee Spikes Coffee With Bleach

An Employee at Denny’s located in the 5300 Block of Jefferson Davis Highway in Spotsylvania is behind bars for allegedly spiking coffee and soda. A waitress and waiter sipping on a cup of coffee and soda smelled bleach in their drinks. The pair immediately contacted the store manager. Police were called and the cook, 29 year old Jermaine Johnson of Fredericksburg, was arrested and charged with two counts of altering a drink with the intent to harm. Police are trying to figure out a motive for the attack. Johnson told police he meant to do it. The two employees who ingested the bad drinks weren’t seriously injured

The 5 percent sales tax will not be imposed on school supplies that are 20 dollars or less and clothing and footwear 100 dollars or less. The family of 29 year old William “Willie” Ennis is raising up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest of persons involved in their son’s murder. Ennis was shot to death when he drove up to the intersection of Belvidere and Marshall streets last night. Richmond police do no believe that Ennis was the intended target. According to eyewitness accounts, the gunmen were described as three black males, between the ages of 18 and 25 years of old.

BP CEO Tony Hayward Poised To Resign

BP Plc said Monday it will debate the fate of embattled Chief Executive Tony Hayward at a board meeting this evening but stressed that no final decision has been made.

The statement follows media reports this weekend that Hayward has agreed to step down and will be replaced by Robert Dudley, the American heading the company’s cleanup efforts in the Gulf of Mexico in the wake of the worst oil spill in U.S. history.

The City of Richmond Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities will extend (8) of the department’s outdoor public pool operations due to extreme heat conditions this weekend. The pools are opened from 12pm-8pm this Saturday and Sunday. Normal pool hours will resume on Monday.

It’s Too Hot: Another Boiling Weekend Ahead!

Extreme heat conditions are here this weekend with 100 degree temperatures. There is a heat advisory in effect from 12pm-7pm today, which will make the outside temperatures feel up to 105 degrees.

Here are a few suggestions to stay cool in the heat:

Drink Plenty of water and other liquids to keep your body hydrated
Wear light weight, lose fit clothing
Wear caps and hats
Take frequent breaks and just simply stay cool

The cooling Shelters in Richmond are open from 8am-5-pm. Bottled water will be provided. No pets allowed with the exception of service animals

The Cooling Station is open from 12pm – 7pm. Bottled water will be provided.

Chesterfield School Teacher Arrested For Drinking On The Job

Students A Jacob Road Elementary School reported to the Priciple’s office that their Substitute teacher was acting strangely. Administrators who investigated the complaint found that 50 year old Sabrina Padow had been drinking on school property before class. She was arrested and charged with drinking on school property. Padow plead no contest to the chargers and will serve 8 days in jail, plus a $125 fine.
