A group of local residents in the Ferguson community have been secretly testifying before a grand jury to share their accounts of what happened the night that 18-year-old Michael Brown (pictured) was slain. One of the witnesses says he saw the exchange between Brown and police officer Darren Wilson from start to finish. 

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch gives the witness’ main points as:

 

• After an initial scuffle in the car, the officer did not fire until Brown turned back toward him.

• Brown put his arms out to his sides but never raised his hands high.

• Brown staggered toward Wilson despite commands to stop.

• The two were about 20 to 25 feet apart when the last shots were fi

Ebola Victim Shares Words of Hope

As the Ebola outbreak continues to put Americans on edge, those who have contracted the virus are staying optimistic. NBC News freelancer Ashoka Mukpo, who is battling Ebola, took to Twitter to share words of hope with others who are affected. “This thing is not easy but you’re both going to make it. Thanks for your bravery,” she tweeted. Mukpo is currently being treated at the Nebraska Medical Center. Read more.

Brooklyn Man Exonerated After Being Wrongfully Convicted

Imagine being incarcerated for 29-years for a crime that you didn’t commit. It might sound like a nightmare for most, but for 45-year-old David McCallum it was reality. The Brooklynite was exonerated after being convicted for the kidnapping and murder of 20-year-old Nathan Blenner in 1985. McCallum’s friend Willie Stuckey was convicted on the same accounts but passed away in prison in 2001. Read more.

Chris Paul to Host Event to Benefit LA Youth

Many NBA players are known for their community involvement in the cities that they play in. Later this month, Los Angeles Clipper Chris Paul will host a fundraiser at Mastro’s Steakhouse in Beverly Hills through his CP3 Foundation to benefit two youth organizations, Leaps n Boundz and L.A.’s BEST. “We are honored to have these organizations as partners, and we hope that this event will be successful in supporting their continued efforts,” said Paul.
