Fla. Teacher Suspended For Assigning Lil’ Wayne Lyrics As Homework

The Charter Schools of Boynton Beach has confirmed that an 8th grade English teacher has been suspended for assigning the “uncensored version” lyrics of the song “Six Foot, Seven Foot” by Lil’ Wayne.

The teachers assignment was for students to underline examples of figurative language, but the problem is that this vulgar song is full of F-bombs, racial slurs, sexual innuendos and violence . Is this how far we’ve come as a people that Lil’ Wayne is a source and tool for learning????

After being reached for comment, school headmaster Wayne Owens released the following statement:

“The lesson was for students to learn to identify literary devices.  The teacher had already introduced Edgar Allen Poe and Shakespeare.  Students were having difficulty grasping  the concepts of literary devices such as: pun, simile, metaphor, so the teacher used colloquial material. This material did not meet the school’s standards and was not approved.  The teacher recognizes that it was totally inappropriate for a school assignment,
