In his first television interview since being attacked in November by his adult son, who then took his own life, Sen. Creigh Deeds opened up about the the traumatic experience  and expressed how the mental health system failed his son.

Back in November, Deeds tried to find his son an open bed in a psychiatric hospital, but a state law designed to protect patients stopped him from getting the help he needed, resulting in his son brutally atttacking him and then committing suicide.

Senator Creigh Deeds was hospitalized with multiple stab wounds and that his son Gus, who apparently committed suicide, was served an Emergency Custody Order which means his behavior indicated he was a danger to himself or others so he was ordered to have a mental evaluation but because of a State law, he was  released to go back home.
