The Virginia Union University Panthers never give up, even after four consecutive defeats to open the season, VUU made the long trip to Salisbury, NC worthwhile a they pulled out a 32 – 27 CIAA victory over Livingstone College, Union’s first win of the year.  The Panthers now set their sights on Lincoln University, where VUU will play next weekend before returning to Richmond for Homecoming on October 19th against Chowan University.

Meanwhile, the Trojans of Virginia State remained unbeaten in CIAA play and ran their record to 4 – 1 following Saturday’s 14 – 10 road win in Durham against the Bears of Shaw University.  VSU, in it’s first season under Head Coach Latrell Scott, is off to one of it’s best starts in recent memory, and will play this weekend at Elizabeth City State before they return to the Hill for Homecoming 2013 at Roger’s Stadium against the Bulldogs of Bowie State University.

In FCS play, the University of Richmond was off this past weekend as the Spiders prep for a huge date at James Madison this Saturday.  UR had been ranked in the Top 25 before losing at home to Maine, and now face the powerful Dukes Saturday in Harrisonburg.  In Norfolk, the Spartans of Norfolk State University made it two straight victories with a 26 – 24 win over MEAC foe Savannah State.  NSU is now 2 – 3 and play at Delaware State next Saturday.  The Pirates of Hampton University, 0 – 4, had this past weekend off and will head to Greensboro, NC on Saturday to play North Carolina A & T.

Former UR Coach Mike London having a tough season in Charlottesville as UVA falls at home to Ball State over the weekend 48 – 27.  Huge loss to a non-conference opponent at home, leaving the Cavaliers 2 – 3 with a road game at Maryland this week, and the Terrapins are steaming mad after being pummeled by Florida State 63 – Zip.  In Blacksburg, the Hokies of Virginia Tech continue to impress, reeling off their fifth straight win in a 27 – 17 victory over the Tar Heels of North Carolina.  Tech is now back in the national polls this week, cracking the AP Top 25 at No. 24, and will host the Panthers of the University of Pittsburgh on Saturday at home.
