While Benedict College handed Virginia State their first loss of the young season last weekend in New York, it may have set the Trojans back for a moment, but Coach Latrell Scott’s team is still focused on the original mission, a VSU CIAA title for 2013.  The Trojans don’t begin CIAA play until next weekend, but a huge spectacle this week as Kentucky State visits The Hill on Saturday for the Diamond Invitational Classic, a 4pm kick-off at Roger’s Stadium.   Meanwhile, Virginia Union played it’s home opener at Hovey Field last Saturday,  falling to 0 – 2 with a loss to the Bears of Shaw University.  The Panthers aim for their first win this weekend when they host the Broncos of Fayetteville State.

In the MEAC, it’s been a tough go for both Hampton and Norfolk State so far in 2013 as both went into the weekend at 0- 2.  The Spartans hoping to get that initial win as they host the Buccaneers of Charleston Southern University this Saturday at Dick Price Stadium.  Unfortunately for Hampton, that losing trend continued last weekend against Tennessee Tech in the Pirates home opener so HU will attempt to pull out a victory on the road  Saturday at Coastal Carolina.

In the ACC, the Virginia Cavaliers are 1 – 1, and are coming off a week of rest following the crushing loss to Oregon, but the Wahoos still have a chance to make some noise this season.  UVA hopes to regain some momentum as the season moves along with VMI visiting Charlottesville on Saturday..  In Blacksburg, the Hokies of Virginia Tech prepare to face Marshall University on Saturday following a hard-fought 15 – 10 road victory over East Carolina last weekend.  Tech is now 2 – 1, the loss being to No. 1 ranked Alabama.

The University of Richmond lost it’s second straight game at Gardner-Webb last Saturday to fall to 1 – 2 with the Flames of Liberty University visiting the Capital City this weekend.
