It’s been a tough week for Washington Washington Football Team QBs, both past and present. Current starter Robert Griffin III is coming off his worst performance as a pro, on a night where he returned to play following off-season surgery, and looked completely unready to answer the call. Griffin has spent the past couple of days jousting with the media about whether he rushed himself back to play too soon.
Meanwhile, former Washington Football Team QB Doug Williams, the first African-American QB to win a Super Bowl, was fired by his alma mater, Grambling State University, where he was a legend at the position. The move was a surprise mainly because of Williams’ long time connection to the school and to it’s former legendary coach, the great Eddie Robinson, who sent Williams and his skillset to the NFL.
Williams left a front-office job with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to return to Grambling in 2011. The Tigers were 1 – 10 last season, including 0 – 9 in the SWAC Conference, which is certainly out of the typical Grambling tradition. This season, Williams’ team was 0 – 2, and coming off of a 48 – 10 thumping by Louisiana-Monroe last Saturday. He has been replaced by RB coach George Ragsdale.
