Award winning television, stage and film actress best known for her biographical film roles portraying real-life women in African-American culture, including Tina Turner in What’s Love Got to Do with It, as well as Betty Shabazz in Malcolm X and Panther, Rosa Parks in The Rosa Parks Story, Katherine Jackson in The Jacksons: An American Dream, and Voletta Wallace in Notorious.

Best known for her intense portrayal of Tina Turner in the biopic What’s Love Got To Do With It, Angela earned an Academy Award nomination, a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Musical, and an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Motion Picture for her powerful performance.

She has received several NAACP Image Awards for How Stella Got Her Groove Back, The Score, Music Of The Heart, Malcolm X, Contact, Boesman and Lena, and Ruby’s Bucket Of Blood. Most recently, Angela has been honored with a Critics’ Choice Awards nomination for Best Actress in a Movie or Mini-series for “Betty And Coretta,” and a BET Awards nomination for Best Actress in Olympus Has Fallen.

Angela Bassett was recently inducted as an honorary member of Delta Sigma Theta at the sorority’s 51st national convention in Washington, DC.
