Thank you for listening to Community Conversations this morning on 99.3/105.7 Kiss or streaming live at www.kissrichmond.com Today’s topic of discussion is “Automatic Restoration of Rights 101” with members and partners from the Rolling for Freedom Project which is a stakeholder for the Secretary of the Commonwealth on Restoration of Rights in Virginia.

Garry Ellis, State Board of Elections and co-founder of the Rolling for Freedom Project will give examples of crimes considered “non-violent” for purposes of automatic restoration of rights. Also, Ellis will discuss the process of registering to vote online with the State Board of Elections.

Sandra Antoine, Grassroots will walk listeners through filling out the non-violent contact sheet for those eligible for automatic restoration of rights on an individualized basis.

Clovia Lawrence, co-founder of the Rolling for Freedom Project will discuss the eligibility for automatic restoration of rights for non-violent felons.

The Rolling for Freedom Project’s goal is to get thousands of contact sheets uploaded to the Secretary of the Commonwealth’s site for non-violent felons.

Governor Bob McDonnell announced on May 29, 2013 that his administration will grant automatic restoration for nonviolent felons on an individualized basis.  McDonnell believes in second chances and therefore will make the process easier.

Are you eligible for automatic restoration of rights for a nonviolent felony offense?

*Must have completed your sentence

*Must have completed probation and parole

*Must have paid fines and restitution in full

*Must not have any pending felonies.

The Secretary of Administration has been working with stakeholders from across the Commonwealth gathering names of nonviolent felons to have their rights restored by Governor Bob McDonnell. The Rolling for Freedom Project founded by Clovia Lawrence is a stakeholder and will continue to gather names and assistance with online contact sheets of those seeking restoration of rights.
