Although Moses Malone was not able to attend the ceremony, I was more than happy to accept the Resolution passed unanimously by the Virginia Senate and the Virginia House of Delegates honoring the 13-time NBA All-Star and Basketball Hall Of Fame Inductee as a native Virginian and for his historic career in pro basketball, which began directly upon his graduation from Petersburg High School.

Moses, whose mother Mary passed away last summer, is the 7th All-Time leading scorer in NBA history, and 2nd leading rebounder of all-time as well. He was the NBA’s Most Valuable Player three times, and MVP of The 1983 NBA Championship series in which his Philadelphia 76ers swept Magic Johnson and the Los Angeles Lakers to win the title.

Thanks to Senator Henry L. Marsh and Delegate Roslyn Dance for their hard work in making this happen, and to Rastor George W. C. Lyons, Jr. of the historic Gillfield Baptist Church for participating in this ceremony which also honored 5 other outstanding Virginians who hail from the Petersburg area on Sunday.
