NCAA Championship Game Is Set: No. 1 Louisville Versus Battle-Tested Michigan On Monday Night

The 2013 NCAA Tournament is down to the Final Two!  April Madness?  With Louisville the only No. 1 seed to make to Atlanta, the Cardinals met the team that is no longer “shocking” anybody, the Shockers of Wichita State, who had pulled off win after win to the point where they were no longer considered upsets.   Cards coach Rick Pitino knew  they wouldn’t go away easily.  But Louisville prevailed despite the loss of Kevin Ware, whose horrific injury devastated the sportsworld last weekend, and defeated Wichita State 72 – 68 to move into the national championship game on Monday night.  It was indeed a highly competitive contest and a great lead-in to Game 2.

In the nightcap,  Syracuse came in with the reputation of shutting teams down, including that team’s leading scorer.  For the most part, they did a pretty good job on National Player of the Year Tre Burke, but the Orange couldn’t hold off all of the Wolves from Michigan, who won a hard-fought victory to gain a shot at the national crown.  The pressure was clearly getting to Michigan although they had controlled most of the game, but the Wolverines held on to win it 61 – 56 at the end.  Former Richmond Coach John Beilein will make his first appearance in the national championship.  A classic matchup between two teams who have obviously been on a collision course.
