The 6th Annual Date With Dad Dinner & Dance was a rousing success and a truly heartwarming event, held this past Sunday at the Richmond Marriott. I am so proud to be affiliated with this event and withit’s sponsors, Camp Diva, who again had a tremendous turnout of beautiful daughters and proud dads gracing the red carpet to escort the apple of their eyes out on a fun date.  The event was also the subject of a piece by ” Inside Edition “, which will air that segment tonight at 7:30 pm, shown locally on NBC – 12.

As I and co-host Juan Conde of TV-8 news noted, this was a testament to the importance of fathers being present in the lives of their daughters. To see the smiles on the faces of these children just pulls your heartstrings, and they have so much fun laughing with dad, feeling very special and loved as they spend quality time together dining and dancing the evening away.  Bretne & I never danced because we were so busy taking pics and shaking hamds, and that was fine with me because DJs don’t dance, right?

I also want to thank Richmond Sheriff C. T. Woody for his hospitality to us at the ” Dance Of Their Own “, held Saturday at the Richmond City Jail, for those daughters who submitted letters to Camp Diva on behalf of their fathers, who happen to be currently incarcerated. It is such a nice collaborative gesture by Camp Diva and the Sheriff’s Office to see the value in such an event, and I must say, it was a very touching, and emotional day. All positive, all love.

The Date With Dad Dinner & Dance continues to grow and grow, and now, there are organizations all around the country and out the country as well who are seeking to adopt the concept and start up similar events in their communities. Now that speaks volumes about how exciting and important this concept is becoming.
