What a night Friday night at the Soul & R & B Radio Legends Appreciation Party at the Military Retirees Club in Richmond. It was a night of celebration, a night of fellowship, and a night to marvel at the blessings that in 2013, so many great people, great voices who moved and grooved this community for the past 40 – plus years, could all come together and show love for each other, our listeners and supporters, and for THE BUSINESS! While a few of us are still in the game, we will never forget the contributions made by the men and women who made Richmond radio a force to be reckoned with.

I was so proud just to share the stage with legendary names and voices like that of Kirby Carmichael, who is not only a legend, but one of the most warm and gentle giants to ever walk the earth. His voice will never be forgotten in this town, and his legacy lives on through those he has pulled up the ladder, like me. Thank you Kirby, and to coin an old Nat King Cole classic, you are simply ” Unforgettable “. It was wonderful to have Chocolate Chip, Jay Lang, Rob Dungee, Mz. Mikki Spencer, Ken Crandell, Calvin King, Jay Carneal, Al “Rock” Hathaway, Ms. Community Clovia Lawrence, & “Philly” Phil Daniels all in the same room to celebrate a lifetime of devotion to a special craft and gift that we all share.

A special shout out to those who were unable to attend, like Ben Miles, Jim Minor, Dee Dee Renee, “Tiger” Tom Mitchell, Cavell Phillips, and .Jerry Carter. Also, thanks to another Richmond legend, Bill Bevins, for stopping by and spending some time hanging out with us. Mad props to El Bravador Filmworks, whom without his vision and diligence, none of this would have ever occurred. Thanks Brad! The biggest shout-out of all goes to FunkMotor Entertainment for the promotion of this event, and to KISS – FM’s own DJ Drake & Mr. Gee, they just cold crushed it Friday night. I think it’s safe to say it was the best Grown and Sexy old school party I’ve ever been to. But of course, I’m biased! Congrats to the Legends……
