With the excitement of March Madness just a few weeks away, the VCU Rams continue to roll following their 5th straight  win on Saturday against George Washington.   The win improves the the Rams to 21 – 5 in their first season as Atlantic-10 members, and the Rams re-enter the National poll at No. 24.   VCU remains in first place in the A-10 with a huge A-10 road game coming up Tuesday night at second-place Saint Louis, and another big conference showdown looming with 15th-ranked Butler next week.

Meanwhile, the Spiders of UR defeated  St. Bonaventure in overtime on Saturday at the Robins Center in other A – 10 action.  Richmond has two of their remaining five games here in the Capital City, their next home game will be George Washington’s visit on February 27th.  The Spiders are 15 – 11.

In the CIAA, Virginia Union’s lossl to Lincoln University on Saturday may have ruined any chance the Panthers had of catching Elizabeth City for the top spot in the Northern Divisionas.  The road loss also stopped Union’s  momentum going into the CIAA Tournament, which gets underway in Charlotte on February 26th.  If the Panthers were hoping for help from Virginia State, that plan was foiled by the first-place Vikings who went into Daniel Gym on Saturday and defeated the Trojans.  Linciln now moves into second, VUU is third and VSU fourth heading into this week’s action.

The Spartans of Norfolk State University continue to run rampant through the MEAC, going 12 – 0 in the league following a Monday night victory over arch rival  Hampton University. The Spartans have won eleven straight games to improve to 17 – 10. Hampton University also was on a slight win streak as the Pirates had won four in a row before NSU came through the tunnel on Monday.  The MEAC Tournament is being played in Norfolk at the Scope this year.
