The Atlantic – 10 race is heating up as we head down the stretch of the college basketball season, and the VCU Rams are in the thick of things as they currently occupy the top spot in the league with Butler a half game behind.  The Rams are 18 – 5, and despite a slump with back-to-back losses to Richmond & LaSalle, VCU has rebounded with two straight wins and have the week off before traveling to the University of Charlotte this Saturday night.

Speaking of the Spiders, UR is currently in the middle of the A – 10 pack at 4 – 4, and are coming off a big win against Xavier last weekend.  Richmond is now 14 – 9 and will entertain Saint Louis University on Saturday at the Robins Center.  In the MEAC, Norfolk State extended their winning streak to 7 games after a win at Coppin State in Baltimore over the weekend.  The Spartans remain undefeated in the MEAC and have already beaten their top challenger, Morgan State, once so far this season.  Hampton University has won rwo straight and the Pirates hope to make it three as they play at Coppin tonight….

In the CIAA, Virinia Union University has won 3 of their last 4 games following a weekend victory over Chowanm and hope to keep that winning vibe going as the Panthers head down the stretch leading up to the CIAA Tournament.  A big rematch coming up on Thursday night at the VCU Siegal Center against arch-rival Virginia State, which took a loss at home to Lincoln University over the weekend.  The two teams are tied in the CIAA Northern Division at 3 – 2, the Trojans playing .500 ball at 10 – 10, while the Panthers will bring a 6 – 12 overall record into the game.  In the Freedom Classic in January, Virginia State ended Union’s 23 – game winning streak in the rivalry.
