Did you know? In Virginia, living together as a couple without being legally married is a misdemeanor. A Virginia Senate panel voted unanimously Monday to repeal the 19th century so-called “Love Shack” law. The law may finally be repealed during the 2013 General Assembly Session. Alexandria Senator Adam Ebbin brought legislation to legalize shacking without marriage. According to local authorities, couples have not been prosecuted under the law for decades.
Senator Ebbin says only three other states still have cohabitation laws on the books: Mississippi, Michigan and Floria.
