A full slate of games over the past weekend involving the 804’s college teams. Perhaps the most shocking news was VCU losing two in a row, after Thursday’s upsert loss at UR, the then 19th-ranked Rams fell at home Saturday night to LaSalle University at the Siegal Center. VCU has now fallen out of the Top 25 but still sports a respectable 16 – 5 record, and remain in a five-way tie for 2nd place in the Atlantic 10. The Rams will try to rebound on Wednesday night at Rhode Island.

The University of Richmond, fresh off the big home win over VCU, went on the road Sunday to UMass, where the Spiders fell 70 – 65. UR is now 13 – 8 on the season with a date Wednesday in Philly at Temple University. The ” Battle Of The Bay “, basketball-style, went down Saturday night in Norfolk where the Spartans of Norfolk State defeated their arch rivals, the Pirates of Hampton University 74 – 67. NSU remains unbeaten at 7 – 0 in the MEAC standings.

In the CIAA, the Panthers of Virginia Union were the only 804 college team to emerge victorious over the weekend as they beat Lincoln University 60 – 57 Saturday night on the Northside. Meanwhile, Virgina State finally got the monkey off their backs in the Freedom Classic, but took another loss over the weekend at Elizabeth City, where the Panthers will visit on Wednesday. The Trojans remain on the road as well Wednesday evening with a trip to Bowie State in Maryland.
