What do you think? Should all Americans ages 15-64 be tested for HIV?

A panel of medical experts is recommending that all Americans between the ages of 15-64 should be tested for HIV. The guidelines for testing should be, as easy as, a routine check-up. The panel also recommends that doctors offer and recommend HIV testing to people younger than 15 and older than 64 if they are at high of contracting HIV, and for all pregnant women.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has been pushing for widespread HIV testing since 2006.  There are more than 1.1 million people in the U.S. living with HIV, approximately 1 in 5 almost 240,000 people don’t know they have it and are spreading the virus to others.

The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force recommends testing, even for people who aren’t at great risk for contracting the virus. A draft of the guidelines will remain posted on the task force website for public comment at least four weeks
