As we enterWeek 5 of the 2012 NFL season, only the Houston Texans and the Atlanta Falcons remain unbeaten. The Arizona Cardinals were undefeated until they ran into the much-improved St. Louis Rams on Thursday, falling to a Rams team that is playing solid football under Jeff Fisher.   Keep in mind, the Rams are winning, they beat Washington and the man the Redskins gave up their next two first-round draft picks for, Robert Griffin III.   St. Louis now has four blue-chip picks the next two years, and that’s scary.

In Tampa, RG – 3 and RB Alfred Morris got the job done to preserve a  Washington road win over the Bucaneers. The win keeps the Redskins in the NFC East hunt with a brutal schedule coming up beginning with the Atlanta Falcons in DC on Sunday. In Philadelphia, the defending champion New York Giants rolled into Lincoln Field on a two-game win streak, but left with a 19 – 17 loss to the Eagles, now sit atop the NFC East following Chicago’s blow-out of the Dallas Cowboys on Monday Night.

Three blow-outs on Sunday, none more embarassing than the 34 – zip shut-out of the New York Jets (In NY) in front of their fans, who thought this was a potential Super Bowl season. Now there’s speculation that Tim Tebow may become the starter, which will certainly ignite controversy in the Big Apple. The other two displays of on-field dominance took place in Buffalo, where the Bills were thrashed by Tom Brady and the Patriots 52 – 28, and in Denver, where the Broncos crushed the Oakland Raiders 37 – 6.

Among the other winners last week, San Diego, Minnesota, Cincinatti, and the Green Bay Packers bounced back with a win after the devastating call in Seattle by those quickly forgotten “replacement referees”. This weekend’s marquee games include the “Battle Of Pennsylvania” which takes place in Pittsburgh with the Steelers hosting their cross-state rivals, the Philadephia Eagles. In New England, Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos come calling on the Patriots, and the undefeated Houston Texans roll into New York hoping to put the Jets out of their own misery this weekend.
