In the CIAA, both Virginia State and Virginia Union Universities played in North Carolina last weekend, the Panthers certainly had the toughest assignment in facing the defending CIAA champions, the Rams of Winston-Salem State, who crushed Union 35 – 6, handing VUU their second straight loss. The Panthers return to Richmond where they will face Lincoln University on Saturday at Hovey Field.

Meanwhile, Virginia State went into Charlotte hoping to get a win against Johnsoin C. Smith University, but the Golden Bulls had other ideas, running off to a 21 – 0 lead and holding the Trojans off late in the fourth quarter. VSU is now 1 – 3 with the Bears of Shaw University visiting Rogers Stadium this weekend. Both games in Richmond and Petersburg kick-off at 1 pm.

In the MEAC, Norfolk State began the season in the FCS poll but have now lost two straight games to Howard at home and to Ohio University on the road. The Spartans, now 2 – 2, travel to Orangeburg, South Carolina this weekend for a MEAC battle with the Bulldogs of South Carolina State. Hampton was idle last weekend, the Pirates get back in the mix this Saturday when Bethune-Cookman visits Tidewater. HU is on probation and remains winless through three games.
