The Los Angeles Lakers have been extremely busy since the team was bounced out of the NBA Playoffs earlier than they would have preferred. Their pursuit of center Dwight Howard paid off as the All-Star decided to join the Lakers via trade from the Orlando Magic. The team has also announced that they will retire the jerseys of two of the greatest performers in former center Shaquille O’Neal and forward Jamal Wilkes, who played with the Magic Johnson-led version of the Lakers.

O’Neal’s No. 34 and Wilkes No. 52 will be hanging from the rafters of the Staples Center in Los Angeles next season, and the team also announced plans to erect a statue of former Hall Of Fame center Kareem Abdul-Jabbar outside the arena. Jabbar, one of the league’s 50 greatest players of all time, led the Lakers to six NBA titles in his career and won the league’s Most Valuable Player award six times as well. If anyone deserves a statue, it’s the Captain!
