The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association kicked-off it’s 100th year on this Labor Day weekend. The biggest venue was at Dick Price Stadium in Norfolk, VA where the annual Labor Day Classic featured one of the league’s oldest and dearest rivalries, one that actually began may years ago when both Norfolk State and Virginia State Universities were CIAA members. The Trojans remain, while the Spartans have since moved on to Divsion 1 and the Mid-Eastern Athletic Association, and NSU certainly a much stronger FCS playoff team, and showed that in a 24 – 0 rout of State Saturday.

Meanwhile, the Capital City was ready for some college football this holiday weekend as well with the Panthers of Virginia Union University defeating  Benedict College in an evening game at Hovey Field on Saturday evening. Virginia State will play their home opener next Saturday, September 8th against West Liberty University at Roger’s Stadium in Petersburg.
