Radio One Presented the 2012 Senatorial Community Forum hosted by Clovia Lawrence on Saturday at the Virginia War Memorial in Richmond. U.S Senate candidate (D) Tim Kaine participated and candidate (R) George Allen declined the invitation to the forum.

During the forum, Kaine answered questions from Lawrence, the moderator, and the audience on a wide range of topics including gridlock in Washington, ways to avert defense cuts, civil rights, and protecting access to women’s health care.

Kaine reiterated his record and strategies to support education -including historically black colleges and universities [HBCUs] in Virginia and across the country -and contrasted his record on higher education with that of George Allen.

“As governor I did a number of things with the HBCUs and other colleges that I’m very proud of. I did the largest expansion of classrooms and labs that had ever been done in Virginia. I worked with Republican legislators to invest $1.4 billion dollars in construction on our college and community college campuses,” said Kaine. “When George Allen was in the Senate he was voting against student aid while college tuition was growing by 40 percent.”
