Another chapter in New York’s never-ending saga of tragic incidents where a disgruntled employee opened fire on innocent victims outside one of New York’s legendary landmarks, the Empire State Building, killing one person and wounding at least 10 others. The suspect has been identified as 53-year-old Jeffrey Johnson, who was reportedly fired by his emoloyer on Thursday, a business that is apparently located inside the ESB.

Johnson was reportedly turned away from his attempt to enter the building by security officers early this morning, and shortly after 9am he began shooting people apparently at random outside the building before being killed himself. It is not yet clear whether his fatal wound was the result of police fire or self-inflicted. The Empire State Building holds many businesses and over 21,000 employees work there daily.

With several victims, the crime scene is broken up into seperate spots within the major crime scene area with NYPD and FBI officials both on the ground investigating the incident. New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg is also at the location, while President Obama was also alerted about the developments around 9:30am this morning.
