Heard It First From The Mayor – “Hurricane Preparedness” with Mayor Dwight C. Jones & ‘Miss Community’ Clovia Lawrence

Hurricane season is June 1 through November 30. So I encourage all residents to plan now by getting a kit, making a plan, and staying prepared! Following a disaster it may take up to 72 hours for outside assistance to reach your community. Residents should prepare by stocking up on batteries, flashlights, generators, water, non-perishable food and other supplies that you may need during severe weather.

Remember, that the power may go out and cell phone towers may go down, so have an out-of-town contact for everyone in your family to contact.  Also, keep your medication and important paperwork in a safe place. Now is the time to get ready, before a storm hits!

In the event of a large scaled emergency affecting much or all of the area, stay tuned to local broadcast radio and TV and visit www.Richmondgov.com frequently for updates.
