Singing Legend Aretha Franklin may have finally found the actress to portray her in the highly anticipated biopic about her life. In a statement, Franklin revealed that she is very interested in award-winning television and stage actress Audra McDonald to play her in the film. Franklin first took notice of McDonald, who has won two Grammy awards, when she saw her in Porgy and Bess on Broadway.

Though plans for the biopic have reportedly been put on hold, that hasn’t stopped Franklin from assembling a wish list of actors, including Nia Long, Kerry Washington and Blair Underwood to play her siblings.

McDonald is an accomplished stage actress and four-time Tony Award nominee, she is most recognized as Taye Diggs’ chaacter’s ex-wife, Naomi Bennett, on ABC’s Private Practice.

Franklin is currently busy working on new music with iconic producer and manager Clive Davis.
