The 2012 NFL Draft is complete, and with little suspense about the first two picks, the Indianapolis Colts did the expected and selected Stanford QB Andrew Luck, who would have probably been the top pick last year had he decided to come out. The Washington Redskins gave up a truckload of first round draft picks, but they feel Baylor QB Robert Griffin, III was worth the risk at No. 2.

The Minnesota Vikings were scheduled to pick third, and since the Vikes needed a little bit of everything, they decided to trade with the Cleveland Browns, who desperately wanted Alabama RB Trent Richardson. Minnesota picked up more selections from the Browns, two additional picks in later rounds, and still got their pick, Southern Cal’s Matt Kalil, an All-American Offensive Lineman.

More trades followed with Tampa Bay trading down from its 5th pick, dealing the choice to Jacksonville, who selected WR Justin Blackmon, projected as the star wide receiver of the 2012 Draft. The Jags made a bold move because the St. Louis Rams were salavating for Blackmon’s services at No. 6. Then the Dallas Cowboys jumped in after the Rams lost Blackmon and secured the 6th pick to select All-American CB Morris Claiborne of LSU.

Virginia Tech RB David Wilson as expected, was the first state product to be taken off the board on the final pick of the first round to the world champion New York Giants. Wilson, a Danville native, left the Hokies early was listed as one of the top 5 RBs in the 2012 draft. Andre Branch, who starred at Varina HS went to Jacksonville in the 2nd round out of Clemson, where he was a star at defensive end.
