Actress Angelina Jolie has been awarded a new position and title – Special Envoy for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

Newly engaged to actor Brad Pitt, Jolie was promoted to the diplomat-level position after serving for over ten years as goodwill ambassador to the UNHCR, it was announced Tuesday, reports E! News. Jolie will represent the UNHCR at the diplomatic level, working with governments and diplomats.

“In her new role, she is expected to focus on large-scale crises resulting in the mass displacement of people,” UNHCR spokesman Adrian Edwards explained. “I don’t think you need a rocket scientist to see the benefits that she is bringing in terms of the attention that she is getting for the plight of the world’s displaced.”

Jolie, mother of six – Maddox, 10, Pax, 8, Zahara, 7, Shiloh, 5, and twins Vivienne and Knox, 3 – has visited refugee camps worldwide over the past decade in her role as UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador.

Jolie and Pitt confirmed their engagement last Friday after seven years together.
