Veteran CBS newsman Mike Wallace died Saturday at the age of 93. He was one of television’s toughest interviewers. Wallace was surrounded by his family when he passed away at a care facility in Connecticut.

Myron Leon “Mike” Wallace was born on May 9, 1918 in Brookline, Massachusetts to Russian Jewish immigrant parents. Wallace wa an American journalist, game show host, actor and media personality. His youngest son Chris Wallace is a journalist and is host of Fox News Sunday.

Mike Wallace  is best known for his hard-hitting journalism on CBS’ “60 Minutes” news magazine. The news magazine started in 1968 and Wallace was there. Wallace went into semi-retirement in 2006 after close to 40 years with “60 Minutes.”

Mike Wallace traveled with Dr. Martin Luther King, JR during the civil rights movement and had heated discussions with Minister Louis Farrakan. Also, interviewed with Malcolm X on the black movement.
